- Including it in your pre-existing public workshops
- Combining it with other NYC Digital Safety modules to make a longer data-privacy focused workshop
- Sharing the handout with library users at various service points

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

- Identify causes and results of data breaches
- Explain how to use best practices for handling and preventing data breaches

Greet learners and review the plan for this module
What are data breaches and why do they occur?
Provide a brief definition of data breaches and see if anyone has any questions or anything to add. Review some of the major reasons behind why data breaches occur
Discussion: Data breach discussion and examples
Ask your learners to share about data breaches they might have heard about or experienced. Share some famous examples of data breaches
Ways to deal with the threats posed by data breaches
Share strategies for preparing your accounts in advance of a data breach
Activity: Data breach planning and preparation [optional]
Put learners into small groups. Give them the guided handout. Have them brainstorm and write down ideas for ways to better protect themselves against data breaches
What happens during a data breach?
Review tips and warning signs to help learners know if they’ve been impacted by a data breach. Pause to see if anyone has anything else to add
Steps to take if you’ve been involved in a data breach
Share steps for ways to deal with a data breach aftermath
